Fabrik-XR platform redesign
Overview
Fabrik began a redesign of its internal application. Vision to expand commercially.
Fabrik is a medium to produce a no-code metaverse and bridge the gap between humans and machines, making critical machines used in day-to-day activities intuitive for users to understand & manage. Learn more about what Fabrik does.

January 2022 - June 2022
Fabrik wanted to reduce the cognitive load on customers and build an efficient platform to upgrade the old one.
The earlier product was established on the Fabrik templet resulting in low usability, repetitive tasks, and unwanted information
So, we decided to develop an easy and less cogitative operational product that would demand less time to maintain, and be better user-friendly.

The process
The project was divided into four phases 0.0, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 fabrik. The Fabrik web application was revised to fit with UI trends in phases 0.0 and 1.0. In these two phases, we also worked on feedback collected by the company from their previous clients and changes that the company wanted to make.
Under phase 2.0 we created a list of changes through our research and findings. Changes from all phases were directly published and feedback collected was looked back at again and improved in the next iteration. Some components of the application were in constant modification whereas some in each phase were focused specifically.
Each phase was planned in a way to what we wanted to achieve in the next phase.
The problem
Before Fabrik even hired a product design team, a platform had been implemented by engineers based on their basic knowledge of design. Fabrik-XR was created without any usability testing and had little consideration of design rules.
I conducted research interviews with the Fabrik team to uncover any pain points that they were experiencing.
My research encompassed:
-
Understanding the user goals and needs
-
Uncovering pain points with the existing user journey
Gathering insights
After conducting interviews with creators and presenters. We created a detailed list of issues and we also defined broader problems with Fabrik-XR.
Problems with older Fabrik-XR web application
// Bad product navigation // Extra steps
// No customised approach for the user // Repetitive tasks
// Poor user journey map

Tracking and Prioritisation of issues
We categorised these problems to provide the Founder and Product specialist with visibility into the key areas of the platform that needed to be addressed from a usability standpoint. This not only helped to prioritise usability issues in order of need but also helped to shape the product roadmap.

The solution
Based on the above problems recognised, I committed to addressing these pains by coming up with reliable solutions:
// Well-formed user navigation and layout to furnish a fast-loading experience on all devices.
// We aimed to serve as a practical and user-friendly editor that allows users to create easily.
// Assembling easy joining, setting meets in the metaverse
I quickly sketched and created some basic wireframes to gather feedback from the Product, Engineering and users on the overall layout and structure. This involved setting a standardised visual hierarchy and layout.

Developing the design
I created my high-fidelity prototype in Figma and export the HTML and CSS code. I worked very closely with the Front End to ensure that the platform was aligned with the designs before it went live.

A future vision for Fabrik
I created quick screens to define a vision for Fabrik-XR. The whole graph system will be removed with the step system, library of assets, more 3D space and many more to make the platform more advanced and easier to use for users.
